Cass Business School
The WCI Charitable Trust extended its support of the Cass Business School in 2018 with two new scholarships for students who want to study for the MSc in Insurance and Risk Management. Under the scheme, two students will have their fees met in full every year.
“The Livery movement has a long history of supporting apprentices as they learn their trade. The Cass MSc in Insurance and Risk Management provides a 21stCentury equivalent. Through our Charitable Trust, the Worshipful Company of Insurers is delighted to offer sponsorship to two students who would otherwise miss out on this opportunity. MSc graduates demonstrate a commitment to the business of insurance, and will be a long way down the road to their professional CII qualification”, said Tim Carroll, Master at the time of the launch of the new scholarships.
Scholars are expected to be drawn from areas of the UK considered to be relatively lacking in opportunity, and from homes where the income is lower than for median UK households. They will probably have attended schools in the public sector. They will have been active in their local community, and be able to explain how the MSc will complement their career plans.
The MSc is largely a taught course, although it includes a dissertation requirement. It provides significant credits towards the ACII – the core insurance qualification assessed by the Chartered Insurance Institute. The MSc dissertation may normally be accepted by the CII as fulfilling the academic requirements for progress to the FCII. This degree also gains some exemptions from the requirements of the Institute of Risk Management.
Entry to the MSc demands a 2:1 or 1st in a first degree. Those wishing to be considered for sponsorship should first apply to the WCI using the application form (see download link). Successful applicants will then need to apply to Cass following the standard procedure before the sponsorship can be confirmed, although it is intended that the scholarship application process will remove most of the uncertainty from this procedure. WCI and Cass will be liaising throughout the assessment process.
