The WCI's relationship with the Brokerage started in 2008 and the 10th anniversary was marked at the end of 2018 by a modest celebration and a cake cut by the Master and the Brokerage's chief executive Bridget Gardiner, who highlighted the huge success of the relationship.
"The WCI has given over £500,000 to The Brokerage since 2008. We hope you feel we are using your money wisely, supporting over 8,000 disadvantaged young Londoners a year -- raising their aspirations, introducing them to financial and professional services, and providing many with employability skills and paid work opportunities.
"Of particular significance has been the WCI's support of our work with outer London schools, many of whose students have had very few employer-related opportunities. With your guidance and support we have focused on students in Years 12 and 13, the last two years of secondary school, and have registered hundreds of young people who then go on to participate in a range of opportunities, including work experience and internships. For a small number, we are able to place people into permanent jobs in insurance.
"This year we supported the WCI to fulfil its dream of providing bursaries for people to undertake a Masters degree in insurance and risk management by advertising to our network of older students and first jobbers.
"Finally, we are delighted that the WCI has contributed to the pilot year of our new Summer Placement programme, which is about to begin. We plan to place around 90 young people into paid internships next summer, of which over half will be in insurance. Thank you for this incredible belief in our programmes".
